New and improved online database!

We’re very happy to share an update on a project we’ve been working on with our partners at the Exchange for Local Observations and Knowledge of the Arctic (ELOKA) to revamp and improve functionality of our online observations database. This database now houses over 12,000 observations noting weather, ocean and sea ice conditions as well as wildlife and community activities made by observers from across western and northern Alaska.
Updates to the database were made to accommodate observing priorities identified by our community partners, including documentation of unusual conditions, wildlife and harvest observations, extreme weather or storm events and timing of seasonal events such as break up or freeze up.
You can access the database here: https://aaokh-data.org/
To log in, you can create an account by agreeing to our database user agreement, which outlines the requirements for using and accessing these observations. This account creation will also ask for some basic details about your background as a database user so that we have a better understanding of the audience for these observations.
Check it out! And please reach out if you have any feedback on the database or our work at aaokh@alaska.edu.
