At AAOKH, we prioritize the goals and needs of the Indigenous observers, communities, and local organizations we work with to identify how observations are used, by whom, and when to create new research partnerships or seek additional financial support. Over a multi-year process with AAOKH observers, researchers, and steering group, we established several principles in 2025 to guide new opportunities and partnerships.

Would you like to help elevate the perspectives and observations from communities in the AAOKH networks? Here are some ways we will evaluate new collaborations:

• Is there alignment with AAOKH’s priorities, mission and values? 
• How does this serve Tribes or other community/local partners in AAOKH communities?
• How will AAOKH observers be supported or acknowledged, and how will their sovereignty over observation data be upheld?
• What opportunities are there to share resources (i.e., funding) among partners?
• Do potential collaborators demonstrate an advanced level of cultural awareness and experience working with Tribes, Indigenous Knowledge systems, or elevating community perspectives? Or have they identified steps they will take to steward a relationship with Indigenous communities?
