We are excited to share the Winter 2024 edition of AAOKH News, from the Alaska Arctic Observatory & Knowledge Hub (AAOKH). 

Guy Omnik shared: “Just got back from a two day
hunt. Seen a bit of everything this trip: one wolf, lot of
bears, musk ox, sheep, few caribou, and walrus.” on 24 August 2023 near Tikiġaq (Point Hope).

Another jam-packed edition, highlights include:

  • Summary of community-based observations and climate conditions since summer 2023 
  • Summer and fall knowledge exchange activities and workshops
  • Researcher and student project updates
  • Roberta Tuurraq Glenn-Borade led AAOKH’s contribution to the annual Arctic Report Card
  • A new children’s book about natchiq (ringed seals)
  • Summary of marine traffic data in the Alaska Arctic
  • Working with organizations and residents in Qikiqtaġruk (Kotzebue) and Utqiaġvik to identify local weather and ice forecasting needs
